Sel-Plex Cleared for All Livestock Species in Canada

[Guelph, Ontario] - On August 20, 2005 Sel-Plex was cleared for use in beef rations in Canada after being reviewed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Sel-Plex is produced by Alltech, a Kentucky-based biotechnology company with its Canadian Headquarters in Guelph, Ontario. This latest CFIA clearance is important as Sel-Plex is now cleared for use in all livestock species in Canada.

Sel-Plex, an organic form of selenium, is the only selenium that can be readily absorbed into the tissues of the animal. As an organic form of selenium, Sel-Plex allows for a better transfer of selenium between a mother and her offspring. In swine, research has shown that the use of Sel-Plex will increase sow productivity by one pig per sow. In dairy, research has shown that Sel-Plex will increase the vitality of offspring while at the same time preventing the onset of white muscle disease.

Originally registered in 1995, Sel-Plex has since received CFIA clearance for use in poultry, dairy, swine and now beef. In the U.S., Sel-Plex is the only selenium yeast to be reviewed by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Throughout the last ten years, Sel-Plex has moved to the forefront of organic selenium supplementation. Today, farmers all over the world count on Sel-Plex to ensure that their animals maintain optimal selenium status.
