Surviving Turbulence: Turning Crisis into Opportunity

Introduction

We live in a world of crisis. The largest broiler producer has gone bankrupt. There seems to be a surplus of corn, and yet a billion people go hungry every night. Not enough attention is paid to education and not enough people are entering into the animal nutrition field.

On the other hand, opportunities lurk around the corner. Hope needs to start at home. Our industry needs to take charge of its own destiny.

We live in a world where a scandal regarding dioxins or melamine on one side of the world is known on the other side of the world within seconds.
Against this background, we seem to have an industry that leaps from crisis to crisis -- the melamine scare in China, the dioxin scare in Ireland. The ability or inability for our government to respond to these crises leads to, in many cases, a compounding of problems.

How can we cope with such volatility and inconsistency? And what, then, are the opportunities for a sustainable and traceable industry?
What is the latest technology and how has cellulose fiber become a viable material?

For 24 years, Alltech’s annual North American Lecture Tour (NALT) has served as a platform to present cutting edge research that addresses current industry issues. This year we will address ways in which our businesses and agriculture at large can maximize feed and food production, while also improving resource use without compromising profitability.

Join us, then, for NALT 2009 where we will present a panoramic view of some of the exciting breakthroughs that are occurring and some of the things that need to happen.

Attendance is by invitation only. Please contact your local Alltech representative for more information. As the tour gets underway, check back here for daily reports and photos.
