Product safety is fundamental to successful brands in the marketplace, and a strong safety package is required for the acceptance of any food or feed additive by major regulatory agencies worldwide. Traditional selenium sources can be toxic at certain levels, and thus harmful to both animals and workers handling such products (e.g., inhalation and skin irritations). Several toxicity studies confirm Sel-Plex is non-toxic and safe for animals and workers.
The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals lists sodium selenite (inorganic selenium) as a Class 2 product and its packaging requires a skull and crossbones, whereas Sel-Plex is listed as a Class 5 (safe) product and no symbol is required on its packaging.
