Overcoming the energy feed crisis in the poultry industry
[Lexington, Kentucky] — The challenges facing the future of the poultry industry are assailed on one side by rising costs for energy sources and on the other by environmental concerns. Will an increase in feed costs result in a decline in poultry meat production at a time when the world needs more protein? Alltech’s 23rd International Feed Industry Symposium will address these concerns during an annual three-day event in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, from May 21-23, 2007. The Symposium provides an opportunity for international poultry experts to discuss these impending issues and propose the most viable solutions that will advance animal feeding programs and ultimately human health.
During the Symposium, Alltech’s poultry session will look at the various concerns listed below:
- Upgrading DDGS: A biorefinery approach to reducing variability - Dr. James Pierce, Alltech USA
- Breeder nutrition: A look at recent developments - Dr. John Brake, North Carolina State University, USA
- Improving pre-starter diets for broilers with nucleotides - Dr. Fernando Rutz, Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Brazil
- Omega-3 fatty acids in broiler breeder diets: A fad or future? - Dr. Athanasios Pappas, Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh
Other speakers include Dr. Keith Filer, Alltech Thailand, and Dr. Peter Surai, Alltech UK; Dr. Larry McDougald, University of Georgia, USA; Dr. Ciro Ruiz-Feria, McGill University, Canada; Loek De Lange, De Heus Feeds BV, the Netherlands; Dr. Curtis Novak, Virginia Tech, USA, and Dr. Uni Zehava, Hebrew University, Israel.

Species sessions will also be held in the areas of dairy, beef, swine, equine, pet, aqua, and food quality and legislation.
